MY EXPERIENCE OF TREATING HERPES ZOSTER

V.V. Romanchuk, neurologist, Kostroma

Treatment of herpes zoster, caused by the type II herpes virus, in patients over 70, presents a difficult task, since controlling for the algetic syndrome requires the use of analgetics, and slow restoration of skin integument is accompanied by coarse scarring of skin areas where a crop of blisters was located. Pain could persist in the affected areas for 5 years and longer.

I treated 16 patients older than 70, with different localization of herpetic eruption - on the head, chest, abdomen, in the genital region. The treatment was carried out at the byol meridian of the spinal cord (triple energizer), since the virus affects the peripheral nervous system. Excessive energies were sedated step-by-step: sedation of Heat (Fig. 1) and sedation of Humidity (prescriptions were made by the subjugation law), followed by tonification of Dryness (also by the subjugation law) and tonification of Coldness (in a combined way). Taking into account that the patients had low immunity, I warmed up the thymus correspondence area with moxas. Sometimes, when the affected zone was located on the chest skin and in the abdomen, additional three needles were put in the correspondence system: one needle was inserted paravertebrally, and two needles into the correspondence to the affected zone (Fig. 2). When herpes zoster affected the head, I carried out local treatment on the thumbs according to the Six Ki principle.

In 100 percent cases the algetic syndrome was controlled during the second procedure; also, eruption was arrested. The time of epitelium restoration, which takes up to 6 weeks with pharmacological treatment, decreased to 1.5 weeks, in the affected area minimal scarring of skin integument was observed. In severe cases, sometimes a course of treatment was repeated, this time in connection with postherpetic ganglionitis, the algetic syndrome being controlled quickly as well.

In the treatment of herpes zoster Su Jok therapy is very effective. In the majority of cases it makes possible to prevent postherpetic ganglionitis which is a severe complication of this disease.
